South Africa’s U20 Women’s national team have defeated Mozambique 3-2 in their second leg of the Fifa 2022 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at Dobsonville Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Mozambique came into this game trailing 1-0 from the first leg.
The showdown started at a fierce pace and it looked like it could be a great day for Basetsana of which it was, thanks to Asanda Hadebe’s hat-trick.
South Africa made the better of the early chances before Hadebe gave Basetsana the lead after Zethembiso Vilakazi played her a great pass in the 13th minute.
Just after four minutes of the restart, Mozambique found an equalizer with a great shot by Elsa Mulingandale.
However, Jabulile Baloyi’s troops continued to keep an eye out for the opportunity to play the ball in behind the visitors’ high defensive line – searching for the second goal of the day.
In the 29th minute of the contest, Basetsana’s prayers were finally answered when Hadebe scored her second goal of the match with another assist from Vilakazi.
The unfazed Mozambican side levelled matters just before the half-time break with another goal from Mulingandale.
The showpiece went into the interval with a 2-2 scoreline and it remained anyone’s game.
Basetsana produced a heroic second-half when Hadebe completed her hat-trick to put South Africa back in the lead.
Mozambique tried to come back into the game as they started to move forwards in numbers, but luck was not on their side.
As a result, Basetsana are through to the 3rd round of the Fifa 2022 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with a 4-2 win on aggregate.
