Buffalo City Municipal Stars started the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League on an exciting high note winning all of their three league games.
The side capped their incredible unbeaten run with a 1-0 win over Port Elizabeth FC on Wednesday to maintain their top spot of the provincial ABC League log standings with nine points from three outings.
Stars made technical team changes by bringing in an experienced coach Tshepo Motsoeneng prior to the new season, a man who knows the recipe of winning titles in the South African football third-tier.
Reacting to their league encounter against Port Elizabeth, Motsoeneng feels his troops were short of match sharpness but pleased with the games’ outcomes.
“We started the match not the way we wanted-yet we got a goal from a set play. We knew that we just needed to put more pressure on them to make mistakes and we scored from their mistake,” Motsoeneng said in a post-match interview.
“But immediately when teams like this look disorganised and all over the pitch, you need to be more relaxed, composed, find a way and play your normal football. We had to play at 120km/h as they were everywhere and that’s what made the game difficult for us.
“If you check we were beyond transition most of the times of which we spoke about that. We need to know that in this division people sometimes will go out to play for a point and also we need to know we should be smarter enough when we have an opportunity to bury the game.
“However, you can’t now fault the players because they got three points and one goal. We say is another clean sheet and we are okay with it as we didn’t have a clean sheet last week but this time around we got it and we are building from that.”
The Eastern-based side will take on Matta Milan away from home on Saturday, 27 March with the kick-off set for 15:00 in the afternoon.
