Benadie optimistic new signings can lead ‘Stellies’ to ‘next level’

The Chief executive of Stellenbosch Academy of Sport (SAS) and Stellenbosch FC says the quality of their latest two acquisitions has given him reasons to worry less ahead of the new campaign.

‘Stellies’ have so far captured defender Zitha Macheke from Bidvest Wits and former Cape Town City goalkeeper Sage Stephens as coach Steve Barker is continuing to strengthen the team for the DStv Premiership 2020/21 season, expected to start next month.

Benadie believes their newly signed players can lead them to the next level in only their second season in the Premier Division.

In their Premiership debut season, Stellenbosch hit the ground running as they finished just outside the top 8 with 36 points and nine wins.

“You guys [Macheke and Stephens] are both champions from now on and we hope you are going to help our team to become champions, that is our objective,” said Benadie.

“It is great to have the quality of players that you both are to be joining us, it is an honour to have you guys as part of the team, growing the brand going forward and I really hope you have a good season with us. We will do everything in our power to help you be successful.”
