Algerian winger Said Benrahma has struggled to hit the ground running in the English Premier League and West Ham United manager David Moyes has given an update about his situation at the club.
Moyes is a big fan of the attacker, but he has told the winger he must improve to get his chance in the Premier League.
The former Brentford star has made just seven appearances for the ‘Hammers’ this season since signing for 30 million Euros on deadline day. From the seven appearances, he has started just two Premier League games so far.
On Sunday the 25-year-old was told to warm up with West Ham leading Brighton Hove and Albion 2-1, but a late equalizer by Tomas Soucek resulted in the manager changing tactics and asking him to sit back on the bench. The ‘Hammers’ salvaged a point at home.
He scored 17 goals in 43 Championship games last season for Brentford who had a good season and lost in the promotion play-off final against Fulham. It was never going to be easy to adapt to life in the top-flight for the former OGC Nice winger. Moyes admits that the attacker is a big talent, but needs to improve certain aspects of his game moving forward.
“We like him, he’s got ability, but it’s retention of the ball, making sure he makes the right decisions more often than not. That’s what we’re after,” he told West Ham TV.
“It’s a step up for him. If we’re going to be pushing and judging him, and I said the same with Jarrod Bowen, I just know some of the boys from the Championship can hit the ground running and others need a bit of time. With Said we’re building him up and making him realise the importance of making the correct pass and keeping the ball when it’s not on, because getting the ball back off teams in the Premier League isn’t easy,” Moyes added.
Most players get frustrated when they are not getting enough game time, this is something the former Everton manager is aware of. “Is he frustrated? I’m sure he is, but that’s part of it as well. He’s come into a side which in the main has been playing very well so he’ll have to wait like everybody else. There’s other players waiting to get into the team as well,” he concluded.
