Cape Town City midfielder Mpho Makola insists nothing pleases him than hosting his annual MTM soccer Tournament at his home village in Tafelkop, Limpopo.
Through his MTM Foundation, ‘Bibo’ is hosting the tournament at the Tafelkop Stadium outside Groblersdal which started on Saturday, December 21 and end on Tuesday, December 24.
The 32 teams tourney is on its 6th year and has a R60 000 price money for the winners.
“This means a lot to me to be honest I grew up in Alexandra (Gauteng) but obviously my roots are here. I used to come here as a kid during school holidays and spend time with the guys, so I know everyone here. My mom and dad are from here, so this community means a lot to me and it has kind of molded me into what I am now” Makola told FARPost.co.za
“My vision when I stared this tournament was to uplift this community to get the kids out of the streets and to get them more involved in sports. I have big ambitions because this is not just about football it’s also about social responsibility.
“This is my 6th year so hopefully next year will be even bigger with more sponsors because I want to get this pitch (Tafelkop stadium) fixed as soon as possible. I also want to see these kids taking their education more seriously and that will absolutely please me.”
The tournament attracts more than 2 000 fans on a daily basis with scouts from all over the country coming to identify the talent.
