The 2021 Boy Mamabolo football games are underway at the Seshego Stadium in Limpopo and will play until Easter Weekend.
The games which started on Friday, 20 March involves Under 10, 13, 15 and 17 teams from the Capricorn District.
Mamabolo who is a Member of Parliament says the aim is to ensure that kids within the Seshego community and surrounding areas find something to keep them busy and stay away from the streets.
“The idea in this whole process is to take kids away from the streets. Some of us grew up playing soccer so now we think that this is the best idea and it needs to be supported,” said Mamabolo.
“Remember that we started with the high school challenge last year, now we are continuing with the local teams. We have about 33 teams and during the Easter weekend, we will be doing the quarterfinals, Semifinals and finals on the last day which is Easter Monday.
“We are very happy that the tournament is receiving a lot of support from a number of institutions, the coaches, the players and even the management of the teams. It is going to be an annual tournament where you have these young boys participating. Taking them away from the streets is the most important thing,” he added.
Through his Boy Mamabolo Foundation, the politician also hosts an annual schools tournament in Seshego.
