A Brazilian footballer has been reportedly charged with attempted murder after kicking a match official in the head during a lower division league encounter.
Sport Club Sao Paulo player William Ribeiro attacked Rodrigo Crivellaro during their league clash with Guarani after he awarded a foul against him on Monday, as reported by BBC Sport.
The game was suspended in the second stanza and Crivellaro was taken to hospital, where he was later released.
Meanwhile, Ribeiro has been sacked by his club with immediate effect.
The match was replayed a day later with Guarani walking away victorious with a 1-0 slender win.
The club described the incident as “one of the worst in its history”.
