Ajax Cape Town have signed former Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa for the remainder of the season.
With the GladAfrica Championship reaching the business end, leaders Ajax will be hoping that Mahamutsa’s experience will come in handy in the remaining nine games of the season as they look to clinch the second-tier league and return to the Absa Premiership.
“The world works in a strange way; I’ve always admired Ajax as a club and as a brand for many years,” said Mahamutsa.
“At my age you wouldn’t think that I would have the honour of working with the best academy in Africa but here I am.
“To the Ajax faithful, I am looking forward to wearing your treasured red and white kit and I will fight for this title as if I came through your academy,” added the veteran defender.
The 38-year-old last played competitive football for Free State Stars before the club got relegated to the National First Division (NFD) in 2019.
He spent eight years at Pirates, winning consecutive trebles and seven trophies before moving to Ea Lla Koto where he helped the side win the 2018 Nedbank Cup playing in every game.
