AmaZulu have confirmed the passing of club legend, Thulani Cedric ‘Sugar Ray’ Xulu.
He was 80 and was thought to be battling cancer, but the cause of death has not been confirmed.
Born in Clermont in December 1939, Xulu had the honour of having a stadium – Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, a multi purpose venue in Clermont – named after him.
“When we see Jomo Sono, we see Orlando Pirates. When we see Kaizer Motaung, we see Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. When we see Sugar Ray, we see Amazulu. Sugar Ray belongs to this class defined history and left a permanent footprint. It is important that we must preserve this history so that future generations must know about their heroes,” PSL boss Irvin Khoza once said.
