FARPost can confirm that Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has signed a pre-contract with the Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs had offered Maluleka an extension as FARPost previously reported, but he’s turned it down and has now signed for Sundowns.
The 31-year-old midfielder will leave Chiefs at the end of the 2019/20 season with his contract expiring in June.
‘The Glamour boys’ released a statement to further explain what transpired:
“The contract talks between Kaizer Chiefs and midfielder George ‘Mido’ Maluleka have reached an unexpected ending. The Club offered the 31-year-old a two-year contract extension + one-year option to renew on his current.contract, but he turned it down.
“Following a string of negotiations, the player himself revealed to the Club that he has signed a pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns. Maluleka joined Kaizer Chiefs in January 2014 and his current contract is due to end on 30 June 2020.”
The former SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town midfielder spent six-and-half-years at Chiefs making 168 appearances with 11 goals to his name and 23 assists.
Maluleka was part of the ‘Amakhosi’ team that won the 2014/15 Absa Premiership title and the MTN 8 trophy.
