FARPost can confirm that Maritzburg United have parted ways with their assistant coach, Vincent Kobola.
“It was a mutual agreement. I wish the club well,” says Kobola.
The parting of ways comes as a huge surprise considering Kobola’s contribution alongside head coach Eric Tinkler.
Even when the club enlisted the services of Delron Buckley to also serve as an assistant, Tinkler insisted that Kobola remained his first assistant.
The former defender played a pivotal role as Maritzburg managed a respectable 7th place finish last term and things were expected to get better this season.
But by bringing in Buckley and parting ways with Kobola, perhaps the Pietermaritzburg-based is fixing what’s not broken – a decision that could come back to haunt them.
