Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have bolstered their side with the addition of six experienced campaigners for the new Safa National Women’s League (SNWL) season, including Banyana Banyana international Bambanani Mbane.
Behind the scenes ‘The Brazilians’ have already been preparing with confirmation that new players have already been secured as they aim to defend their SNWL title.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi, a lethal striker, and defender Zanale Nhlapo rejoin Sundowns Ladies from Kosovan Women’s League champions KFF Mitrovica.
Mgcoyi, is a seasoned professional with eight years of European football experience has represented a number of teams including German side FC Saarbrücken. While Nhlapo, who has featured for Banyana is a rock-solid defender and leader as she wore the captain’s armband for Albanian Women’s team KF Apolonia.
Melinda Kgadiete and Thalea Smidt join the Tshwane giants from Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and AmaTuks respectively.
Meanwhile, Mbane returns to South Africa following a stint abroad at Dinamo Minsk in Belarus where she won the Belarusian Women’s Cup title along with fellow Banyana teammates in Lebogang Ramalepe and Rhoda Mulaudzi.
The former Celtic Ladies attacker, Kgadiete was part of the Banyana 2018 Cyprus Women’s Cup Squad, while Smidt captained AmaTuks Ladies and is a former Basetsana (Women’s U20) midfielder.
Lesotho captain Boitumelo Rabale, affectionately known as ‘Queen’ also penned a deal with Sundowns from Lewis and Clark Community College in the United States of America. She was voted the Junior College-All American National Women’s Player of the Year in 2020 scoring 57 goals with 30 assists.
“Kgadiete [from Celtic Ladies) has signed with Sundowns, Mbane, Mgcoyi, they are back from overseas to join the club, Nhlapo is back as well,” a source close to FARPost confirmed on Thursday.
“Smidt from AmaTuks Ladies and Boitumelo Rabale, the Lesotho international has also signed with Sundowns. The six players have signed two-year contracts with Sundowns.”
The new season will get underway in April with the defending SNWL champions Sundowns ladies taking on rookies Ma-indies Ladies in Thohoyandou on Saturday, 03 April.
Sundowns will also be competing in the first-ever Caf Women’s Champions League after clinching the league title with a 100 percent win record in 21 matches.
