Legendary Siyabonga Nomvethe is set to make a dramatic return to professional football just six months after announcing his retirement from the beautiful game.
Uthongathi will today announce the signing of the 42-year-old, who last represented AmaZulu in the Premier Soccer League before announcing his retirement.
Uthongathi media officer Nkosinathi Chili confirmed that the deal is as good as done and Nomvethe is set to put pen to paper on a short-term deal in the next few hours.
“Yeah Bhele[ Nomvethe] as we speak I’m on my way to the office because last night I left with everything having being sorted [paperwork]. All is left now is for him to sign the contract as we have received back the contract and documents.
“If you can call me after 20 minutes, I’ll give you confirmation of his signature,” said the Cane Cutters media man.
“Negotiations are done we have agreed on everything, by the end of the day he will be a Cane Cutter, if everything goes well we will confirm everything today. It will be a six-month contract then we will review everything at the end of the season.”
Uthongathi are looking to add more firepower to their arsenal in their bid to gain automatic promotion to the major league as the GladAfrica Championship race heats up.
They are currently in second position in the log standings, with just a point behind log leaders Ajax Cape Town who defeated Uthongathi by 3-1 over the weekend to knock them off their perch for the first time this season.
