For the first time in the history of SA professional football, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has today declared a record R1 Billion in revenue during the 2018/19 season at the annual general meeting.
The PSL’s executive committee was addressing the media on Thursday at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park.
“It’s a record and it augurs well for the clubs,” said chairman, Irvin Khoza.
“It means the new season (2020/21) will come with an increase in grants,” he said.
As things stand, an Absa Premiership club gets close to R30-million per season in grants.
GladAfrica Championship sides receive R500 000 monthly.
The League generate its income from official sponsors and broadcast partners; SuperSport, Absa, Nedbank, Telkom, MTN, MultiChoice and GladAfrica.
The PSL’s expenditure list has not yet been revealed, which means it’s not possible to ascertain the profit for the 2018/19 season.
