There aren’t many young players who can claim to have won a treble – the Premiership title, Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout in their debut season in the professional ranks.

Promise Mkhuma did that in 2020, as a 20-year-old.

It has been a rapid rise to the top for the future superstar, who was promoted to the Mamelodi Sundowns senior side last season after impressing in the Diski Challenge team for a couple of seasons.

Manqoba Mngqithi like Pitso Mosimane has tipped Mkhuma to become the next big thing in South African football.

“Mkhuma is a boy that has got a very bright future, who works very hard, which is why we have been playing him regularly,” said Mngqithi.

“And many people complain why Promise and not that player, but our bias is more on players that give their heart out to the team.

“Promise works very hard, and he fulfills our tactical objectives, both defensively and offensively and that has always been something that we don’t want to move away from because it is the culture of dominating the field, it is the culture of dominating the ball.”

The talented left winger has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Tshwane giants including featuring in the Caf Champions League this season.

“He’s got the profile to help us in that space and we do believe that he’s going to be very helpful for us going forward,” added the Sundowns co-coach coach on Mkhuma, who has several junior international caps and played an important role in helping Amajita defend the Cosafa title and was voted the player of the tournament.

In 2019 he was part of the team that qualified for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Poland after finishing second in their group at the Africa Youth Championship in Niger.

Well, Mngqithi went on to reveal that Mkhuma is also blessed with another talent as a singer with the potential of not playing to tens of thousands at football stadiums, but at music festivals.

“Promise is a very nice kid, very vocal and outspoken. Surprisingly he is the lead singer in the team,” he said.

“If you can listen to him when the team is singing you must know Promise is the one who is leading in that. Promise should also consider recording because he is very good in that space.
