Nigerian striker Junior Ajayi is eager to bag his tenth title in Al Ahly colours when the Egyptian giants lock horns with Morocco’s RS Berkane at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium Doha, Qatar on Friday evening (18:00).
The two North African clubs clash in the Caf Super Cup, an annual tie pitting the winners of the continent’s two club competitions – the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup.
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly are in the final by virtue of winning their record-extending ninth Caf Champions League title last year.
The Red Devils saw off city rivals Zamalek in a closely contested final, while Berkane dispatched Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC 1-0 in the final of the 2019/20 Caf Confederation Cup in Rabat.
The treble Ahly won last season brought Ajayi’s trophy haul at the club to nine since joining the Cairo side in 2016 from Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien.
The 25-year-old said their target at Al Ahly was to add another cup to their trophy cabinet.
“That’s our target, to win the Caf Super Cup. It won’t be an easy game but I believe we can make history in Doha.
“The allure of winning another major trophy will motivate the players to raise their game,” said Ajayi, who started his career at Ibadan-based side Shooting Stars.
Ajayi has won four Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egyptian Cup Winners, two Egyptian Super Cups and one Caf Champions League title.
