GladAfrica Championship outfit Cape Town Spurs have announced the signing of former Chippa United striker Lerato Manzini on a free transfer.
The Cape side agreed on a deal to sign Manzini, subject to the player passing a medical after leaving the ‘Chilli Boys’ at the end of last year.
The 29-year-old spent over four years in the colours of Chippa, where he made over 70 appearances, netting 20 goals and providing three assists but left the club as an unhappy man in December as he claimed the Eastern Cape club didn’t pay his settlement after he was released.
“Manzini rose through the ranks at Bloemfontein Celtic and was part of the team that won the 2012 Telkom Knockout Cup with victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.
“He moved to SuperSport United on loan for the 2014/15 season and won his second TKO title as Matsatsantsa overcame Platinum Stars at Orlando Stadium. The player then penned a deal with Chippa United the next season.”
Meanwhile, Spurs, who rebranded from Ajax Cape Town, also confirmed the appointment of Ian Taylor as the club’s new assistant coach ahead of the 2020/21 second-tier season.
Taylor has already linked up with Spurs head coach Vladislav Heric at Ikamva.
The former Spurs player enjoyed two spells as head coach of Cape Town All Stars, joining Cape Town City as an assistant coach to Eric Tinkler and later Benni McCarthy.
“The 43-year-old returns to Ikamva for the first time in five years, having left the Mother City in 2017 to take up a role in China.
“Taylor served as the Head of Talent Development at Chinese Super League club, Guangzhou R&F who signed a partnership agreement with Ajax Amsterdam that year.”
