Cardoso saddened by Gordinho leaving Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has expressed his sadness after his close friend Lorenzo Gordinho left the club a few weeks ago to go join Bidvest Wits.

Gordinho was deemed surplus to requirements at Naturena by coach Ernst Middendorp and with his contract at the club due to expire in 6 months.

The decision to let go of Gordinho didn’t sit well with Cardoso who previously stated that he preferred to partner with the Durban-born player at the heart of Chiefs’ defence for the sake of communication and understanding.

“I’m very saddened by that (losing Gordinho) but unfortunately he didn’t get game time. He is a great player and he was part of the Chiefs set up for 8 years. I think maybe change is good,”- Cardoso.

At the time, Cardoso said Gordinho doesn’t get offended no matter how harsh he becomes to him when barking instructions at the back.

“Gavin Hunt is a great coach and he will know how to use him and I wish him all the best in his future, and I know he will do great. We are great friends and we will always be friends. We were friends before football and we will remain friends for the rest of our lives,” said Cardoso.

Middendorp made it clear that Gordinho was further down the packing order behind Cardoso, Siyabonga Ngezana, Erick Mathoho, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Yagan Sasman who also compete as fullbacks.
