Carling Cup Trophy visits FARPost in Polokwane

FARPost had the privilege of hosting the Carling Black Label Cup trophy and the competition’s ambassadors ahead of the ninth edition taking place on Saturday, 1 August at Orlando Stadium.

Two former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs players Phumudzo Manenzhe and Reneilwe Letsholonyane alongside Carling Black Label Brand Manager Mapule Hadebe are on a tour in the Limpopo Province and decided to bring the trophy to Potgieter Avenue.

The pre-season Cup competition was introduced to give fans unprecedented power and influence over the highly contested Soweto Derby, between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs providing football fans with the opportunity to select a starting line-up of their choice.

This year’s Game Changers include;

Formation: Coaches can vote for the formation of their team.

Captain selection: Coaches can vote for the captain from their starting line-up.

Penalty taker: Coaches can vote for who will take the in-game penalty.

Twitter substitutions: Coaches can make real-time player substitutions via Twitter on match day.

Man of the Match: Coaches can vote for the man of the match via Twitter on game day.

Brand Manager Mapule Hadebe explains the decision to take the pre-season tournament from FNB to Orlando.

“So the Carling Cup this year is taking place at Orlando Stadium for the first time since its inception and part of the reason we are doing that for sure is because we are trying to bring it as close as possible to the fans. Carling Cup believes the fans are the core of the teams and we are hoping that the players on that day will feel the energy across Orlando,” said Hadebe.

Ambassadors Manenzhe and Letsholonyane also shared their excitement over the game changers, with both agreeing that the formation option is an exciting experiment.

“The formation which I think already is the most important one for me. It is that and that the supporters can choose their captain,” said Letsholonyane.

“When you look at the game changers for me I think the formation is the one that is the biggest for me because the formation is the structure of the team,” added Manenzhe
