Case 2021/2022: Maduka v Royal AM

Football matches are epic events with a serious bearing on one’s happiness index, mental state and financial stability.

Central to all these possibilities offered by the game, is the importance of achieving results. Across the world, coaches and of course clubs are judged on what they achieve on the field of play.

The subject of attaining results is at the centre of a tough match this afternoon (15:00) in Kwazulu Natal, when Royal AM host Chippa United.

Leading to this match, Royal AM has been embroiled in player discontent shenanigans and an ugly threat to fire the underperforming technical-team under the leadership of Malawian, John Maduka.

FARPost‘s Intelligence Unit, sees this game as a litmus test for Maduka and trigger-pull potential for Shauwn “MamKhize” Mkhize.

1. Maduka tightrope

Royal AM bought the status of Bloemfontein Celtic from Max Tshabalala at the beginning of the season. Celtic’s players had to relocate hastily to KZN. Families were separated and the DSTV opening fixtures were already on the horizon.

The amalgamation of the two sets of squads (Celtic and Royal AM) was never going to be simple. On the one hand you had season professionals with aches of mileage under their belt, and on the other side a mixed untested team fresh from a brutal court case.

Maduka does not have an enviable scenario of delivering results in a midst of player incorporation, implementing a coherent tactical DNA and pleasing a trigger-ready chairlady.

2. MamKhize’ guillotine

Football leaders are renowned for their heartless firing of coaches when results are not forthcoming. Last season, MamKhize dispatched two coaches already (Mike Lukhubeni & Floyd Mogale), and installed caretaker managers en route to the GladAfrica Championship that ended in tears.

Contracts and player accommodation debacle has been publicly documented. South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) had an emergency meeting with the leadership of the club, to resolve issues at hand.

3. Maduka v Royal AM

In all fairness Maduka inherited a football mess, whose repugnant smell could easily kill anyone. This messy relocation and player integration strategy was destined for failure from the onset.

In the other corner, MamKhize specializes in late acquisition of football asset, swimming with ugly soccer tides and fighting her way out of any football messy environment.

Instead of being a football match, the encounter between Royal AM v Chippa United, will be a survival of the fittest on the Royal AM bench. A loss for Maduka and his technical bench, will observe MamKhize utilizing a machine with a heavy blade sliding vertically on the team’s technical heads with minimal care.

The battle lines are drawn in the Case 2021/2022: Maduka v Royal AM.
