Casemiro: We’re used to how good Benzema is

Casemiro’s lone goal was enough to earn Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday evening to move two points clear of Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

The Brazilian international’s winning goal came from a moment of genius: a back-heeled brilliant no-look assist from the experienced Karim Benzema.

“I have to give huge credit to Karim. It was an incredible assist. We’re used to how good he is,” said Casemiro.

“I know the quality he possesses so I was expecting something. He heard me asking for it and he played it in a brilliant way,” – Casemiro. Picture: Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Benzema said that such incredible skills come naturally. That’s what football is to me, things like that come naturally. I knew he was coming in behind. We’re in good shape and improving with every match.

“It was a good move, but Casemiro’s goal is more important, as he finishes it off well. It was a difficult game; we got the win and it’s three very important points to take home. We’re very happy.

“There aren’t many games left but every single one is like a cup final for us. Of course, we look at what Barcelona are doing but we’re focused on ourselves and on La Liga,” added Benzema.

Meanwhile, Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane believes Benzema’s wonder assist is one of the best moments of the campaign.

“It doesn’t surprise me. He is a player who invents things,” he said, via AS. “And then Casemiro is there. It can be one of the plays of the championship.”
