Bussouma can play at the highest level – Potter

Graham Potter believes Yves Bissouma has the ability to play at the highest level in football.

The English manager spoke to Brighton and Hove Albion’s official website after a successful weekend where Bissouma inspired Brighton to a 2-1 FA Cup victory against Blackpool on Saturday.

Bissouma scored a beautiful long-range effort from outside the box to give Brighton the lead. Eventually the Premier League team was able to grind out the required result and progress to the next round of one of England’s oldest domestic cup competitions.

In recent weeks, the 24-year-old has been linked with different clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid and his performance this past weekend justified why he is so highly rated.

He has established himself as a key member of Brighton’s squad since arriving from French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille in 2018. The former AS Real Bamako product has played 67 Premier League games and scored two goals for the Seagulls so fa.

Potter said he had no doubt that the player is destined for bigger and better things including playing in the Uefa Champions League.

“I think the best Yves Bissouma can, absolutely play regularly in the Champions League. He has got that quality and those attributes that you need at that level. It is about him being consistent enough to do that,” he continued.

Asked about the player’s future at the club, the former Brentford mentor said he is not 100% certain, but he is confident that he is happy where he is and is focused on helping the team get better.

“I think it is nice that our players have taken a step forward. It is nice that he has taken a step forward. You never know anything in football these days, but I think from his perspective he is happy here.

“He is improving, he knows he has got a bit to do as well. He wants the team to be successful and to help the team. We are quite relaxed about everything,” he added.
