Atletico Madrid confirm signing of Mozambique international

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have strengthened their defence with the signing of Mozambican international Reinildo Mandava until 2025.

The Mozambique left-back joins Madrid from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

Mandava made 27 appearances this campaign for Lille and featured in all six of the club’s games in the Uefa Champions League group stage.

The 28-year-old played an instrumental role when Lille clinched the league title last campaign and was named in the Ligue 1 XI of the Year as a left-back

Internationally, he has earned 31 caps for Mozambique, scoring two goals.

Atletico described the defender as a “physically very strong player who takes up a lot of space on the left side. Defensively, he is a player who is very difficult to overcome and very forceful in one on one.

“In addition, his good physical conditions make him cover the entire left flank, joining the attack. Reinildo Mandava highlighted in his native country, first at Ferroviario da Beira, in his city, and later at Grupo Desportivo Maputo. This made him land in Portuguese football where he was able to grow in several teams: Benfica B, Fafe, Sporting Covilhã and Belenenses.”
