Chasing Ajax gets difficult now – Truter

Swallows FC head coach Brandon Truter has admitted that it will be hard to catch runaway GladAfrica Championship leaders Ajax Cape Town as his side fell further behind in the title race, following a goalless draw against TS Sporting at Tsakane Stadium on Wednesday.

As Ajax edge closer to gaining automatic promotion after a narrow 1-0 victory over Richards Bay on Wednesday at the Rand Stadium, Swallows have now fallen nine points behind the Cape Town-based outfit in the second-tier league with five games remaining.

“It’s two points dropped, and it puts us back, depending on other results as well, that is nine behind Ajax and it gets a bit difficult, is a setback,” said Truter.

If not outride[gain promotion to the Absa Premiership] then we have to fight for the promotional playoffs but against us, teams will park the bus and hope to get us on the counter, it is expected and we have to find a way to get around them,” added Truter.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Uthongathi FC in third and fourth place respectively still have an outside chance of winning the GladAfrica title and are very much in contention for a playoff spot as they are a point ahead Swallows in second place.

“It was our first game [versus Sporting after the five-month Covid-19 enforced break], but I wouldn’t call it rustiness… at least the good thing is we got the 90 minutes behind us and hopefully, the nerves and anxiety is done now and we will build from here, we will take the point,” concluded the Swallows coach.
