Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki has revealed Safa’s plans about the future of Kgaogelo Chauke in national team colours.
On Thursday morning, the former U17 mentor announced his Bafana Bafana squad to face Ghana and Sudan in two crucial 2021 Afcon qualifiers later this month.
Ntseki was asked if there are any plans to include the Southampton rising star in the national team set-up in the near future and he said the player will be part of the U23 squad moving forward.
“He will be in the team for the U23s, he needs to be blended in because he doesn’t understand the culture and social cohesion.
“He grew up overseas, he doesn’t understand the culture and what’s happening in South Africa. He needs to have that social cohesion and a technical understanding of our players because he grew up and was developed with players from England.
“We are helping such players because coach David is part of the selection and preparation of Bafana Bafana so he will be given an opportunity to go and play with the U23.”
Chauke has been doing well in England and promoted to the Saints’ senior squad. He has made the bench in most of their games this year including against Liverpool and Manchester United. He made his senior debut in a 2-0 cup win against Shrewsbury Town where he started and played 78 minutes for the Saints. He is a full member of the first team and no longer features for the reserve side in the Premier League 2.
Late last year, the 18-year-old was included in England’s U18 squad where he featured in friendlies for the youth squad.
Bafana Bafana will host Ghana at the Soccer City Stadium on the 25th of March and take on Sudan away from home three days later.
