“The biggest problem as a team, as a club, the management, shareholders, whatever, Kaizer Chiefs is not used to it, where we are at the moment since 5 years, they don’t know how it is to be on top of the league, to be in a good position.”
These are the words of Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp at the pre-Soweto Derby press conference on Wednesday in Randburg.
Chiefs have been at the summit of the Absa Premiership for the most part of the 2019/20 season and they head into the much-anticipated Soweto Derby 4 points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns and 6 points ahead of their opponents on Saturday, Pirates in third place.
“We are consistent in terms of our position and I think this is something where you start discussing , you start whatever in terms of trust the players, trust the team we have seem over a period of 8 months or 7 months including the preseason,” said Middendorp.
Pirates are in red-hot form having won six consecutive games in the League. The German coach said that he is very much aware of the threat Bucs pose.
“I am going more into the performance from our side, ourselves, I go into the performance of course of preparing for our next game like now against Orlando Pirates, consistency regarding the results on their side no doubt.
“We highlighted again and again, we are very critical to our very own performance, we don’t take the results only, sometimes you are not on the lucky side and sometimes you are. I have full trust and confidence in my team,” added the Chiefs coach.
