Kaizer Chiefs’s position at the top of the Absa Premiership is under threat with the opposition chasing them down.
It, therefore, goes without saying that this afternoon’s Soweto Derby clash against rivals Orlando Pirates is crucial if Chiefs are to hang on to their lead and prevail in the end.
It’s a situation that calls on Amakhosi players to step up their game and ensure a win against Bucs, which may go a long in deciding where the League goes this season.
FARPost picks three players that would be key for Chiefs in today’s big encounter…
Yagan Sasman (left back)
Sasman has to keep Thembinkosi Lorch quiet and that is easier said than done, of course. However, Sasman has good defensive abilities and equally important is his ability to overlap. In both areas, his presence would be key for Chiefs as they seek to get one over their rivals and steer clear of the chasing pack in the League race.
Willard Katsande (midfielder)
His role is often understated. But few would question his commitment to Chiefs’s cause. To keep the Pirates midfielder quiet in the centre of the park, Chiefs will look to Katsande and one of the leading figures in the Chiefs setup, the Zimbabwean has always been up for a fight.
Leonardo Castro (striker)
Castro has a very good record against Pirates, with 6 goals and 1 assist in 9 games. In Chiefs’s 3-2 win over Pirates late last year, Castro was Amakhosi’s main man with a brace. On his day, Pirates will have a lot to deal with in trying to stop him.
