Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso hopes his team will have the mental tenacity to handle pressure better and overcome Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon in a DStv Premiership clash at Cape Town Stadium.
Ten matches into the campaign, Chiefs find themselves struggling in the league, 10th on the log standings with 10 points, having won just two matches, drawn four and lost four.
Cardoso believes the Soweto giants will have to display the same fighting spirit which saw them beat AmaZulu 1-0 away from home in their most recent game.
“Reflecting back on our performance, against AmaZulu, I thought it was a very, very good game from our team, you see the fighting spirit we showed,” said Cardoso ahead of Chiefs’ trip to Cape Town.
The Chiefs defensive kingpin went on to state that the ‘Usuthu’ win was a huge confidence booster and the boys are eager to make it two wins a row for the first time this season.
“It was a very, very important win for us to boost our morale. It wasn’t the easiest game that we’ve had, but you know, we keep going from here, three points is what we needed, and we certainly got them, and we can only move forward from here on.
“We’ve got to collect three points [against CT City] and we’ve been very good on the road and we hope to continue the performance. It is not going to be an easy one.
“If we can put up another fighting spirit like we did against AmaZulu, we should walk away victorious. I think that win will boost us going into this game, as we play them in Cape Town, but obviously playing back-to-back, we need to do our recovery properly.
“We want to thank our supporters for always being there behind us, and to continue supporting us, even when the times are tough, we will come out of what we’ve been going through,” concluded Cardoso.
