Zambia national team captain Enock Mwepu has been ruled out of the back-to-back 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Equatorial Guinea due to an injury.
Mwepu sustained a groin injury during warm-up before a Carabao Cup game that saw Brighton and Hove Albion beat Swansea City 2-0 last month.
Chipolopolo team Doctor George Phiri has also revealed that Striker Evans Kangwa sustained a hamstring injury and is doubtful for the away game.
“Generally, the players are doing fine and fit except for two players. Enock Mwepu has been ruled out of the two games due to a groin injury,” he said.
“Evans Kangwa has reported in camp, suffered a hamstring injury. He might miss this game but will definitely be ready for the home game. He is on light training and we are managing,” Dr Phiri said.
Zambia host the Nzalang Nacional in a Group B clash on 10 October 10. They are away to Equatorial Guinea on Thursday in the first of the double-header clash during this round of qualifiers.
