Goals from Anthony Laffor and Maloisane Mokhele were enough to secure a 2-1 victory for Chippa United against Richards Bay FC as they booked themselves a spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.
The much anticipated match was held at Sisa Dukashe on Saturday afternoon.
This defeat brought to an end an impressive run of form by the Natal Rich Boys, who were unbeaten in 10 matches in all competitions. Simo Dladla’s charges went to the match as favourites to advance to the last four of the Nedbank Cup, after knocking out Kaizer Chiefs in the last 32 and TS Sporting in the last 16, both by a 2-1 score line.
The experience of the likes of Thamsanqa Sangweni, Sizwe Mdlinzo, Isaac Nhlapho and Laffor, who scored in the third minute of the match came in handy for the Chilli Boys. l
Meanwhile 2019 Nedbank Cup winning duo of Ludwe Mpakumpaku and Austin Dube could not stop Dan Malesela’s troops from rattling the net.
Siyabonga Vilane scored the consolation goal in the dying minutes of the match for Richards Bay as they bowed out of the Cup of dreams with their tails up.
