Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has thrown his weight behind newly appointed head coach of the club, Gavin Hunt.
Mpengesi described the former Kaizer Chiefs coach as a manager and someone who will make a difference.
The club and main sponsors Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality promised to support Hunt on his journey to transform the team.
“Mr Hunt is a well known man, I don’t have to explain myself who he is. He is one of the top mentors and I thank him, for after I’ve spoken to him, when he understood the vision that we have here,” said Mpengesi.
“For him to accept to come here, you know he is not here in vain, he is going to make a difference and we are going to support him.
“As management we are all going to support you, we want our identify to change, this year is a year of changing identity,” continued Mpengesi.
“As a team and our municipality, our executive mayor (Nqaba Banga) is the one who has been asking us to come with something different in this season of 2021/22.
“When I mentioned the name of the coach, the mayor jumped and said bring the coach, because as our municipality we deserve something good,” echoed Mpengesi.
The mayor of the NMBM Councillor Nqaba Banga was also in a celebratory mood when he welcomed coach Hunt in the city.
“I must say we are in celebration as the people of the city, 1.3 million people who were in celebration for the fact that we were not relegated.
“Chippa United to us is very important because our understanding is that we want to make this city a sporting destination and we are committed about the coach.
“We are a shareholder here, I always tell Chippa that because we put money every year.”
