Samuel Chukwueze scored a brace for Villarreal as they thumped Levante 5-1 in La Liga on Sunday.

The winger ended a 17-game goal drought in the colours of the Spanish side.

He last scored a goal in the Uefa Europa League against Sivaspor on the third of December 2020. In the league, Chukwueze’s last goal was on November 2.

Villareal went into the encounter at the back of an impressive game in the Europa League where they defeated Dinamo Zagreb in the quarter-final to book an appointment with Arsenal in the semi-final of the competition.

The Yellow Submarine ran riot at the Clutat de Valencia Stadium thrashing the home side to complete submission in their own backyard. Going into the game, Levante had only won one of their last six La Liga clashes against Villarreal and that was back in August of 2019.

Things started badly for Levante when Sergio Postigo scored an own goal just nine minutes into the clash. Four minutes later, on-form striker Gerard Moreno doubled the advantage for the visitors after a beautiful ball from Dani Parejo, 2-0.

Mickael Malsa pulled a goal back for Levante in the 21st minute which made things interesting going into the half time break.

The visitors came back stronger in the second half and it came as no surprise when Chukwueze scored the third goal in the 63rd minute to restore Villarreal’s two-goal advantage.

Ruben Ezo scored another own goal before Chukwueze completed his brace in the 75th minute to give Unai Emery’s side a resounding victory away from home.

Chukwueze has now netted three goals in 25 league appearances this season.

Villarreal will now shift their focus to Wednesday night’s league clash against Alaves as they continue to climb up the log standings.
