Cape Town City have decided against signing their former player Tshepo Gumede.
Gumede who played for the ‘Citizens’ from 2016 until 2018, surfaced at the club in January with the hope of earning a deal with the Cape Town-based side.
But club chairman John Comitis reveals that the club has decided not to sign Gumede. “Tshepo did not sign,” said Comitis.
The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after parting ways with AmaZulu in 2019.
Meanwhile, Comitis confirmed they have released midfielders Riyaad Noorodien and Mark Mayambela to reduce their squad to a manageable size.
“We needed to reduce the squad size; the coach wanted a more manageable squad size. And he assessed the squad and decided that in order to be fair to certain players that they get more game time, and the ones that he thinks that he’s gonna work with… he decided that those 2 at this stage will be the one that he will release,” the City boss added.
“He wanted to rather work with Fagrie Lakay on the right and Craig Martin. We had 4 right-sided players. So, we only needed 2 on that side that’s why we released those two,” concluded Comitis.
