City release Mbonani and Maluleke

Polokwane City have confirmed the departure of midfielder Wiseman Maluleke and defender Sibusiso Mbonani with immediate effect.

The pair were part of a group of players whose contracts came to an end on Tuesday and while other players were given 2 months extensions, they were the only players released immediately.

Rise and Shine COO Tincy Tema told FARPost they started engaging with those that are staying for now, about their long-term future.

“Yes it is true that we did not extend those two players’ contracts but with regard to the others we extended their contracts by 2 months,” said Tema.

“We have been guided by the PSL to say we should extend by 2 months which means it’s from July to the 31st of August. Remember this COVID-19 came with financial constrains so we decided not to extend the other players contracts based on financial reasons.

“Obviously there will be those that we will be releasing (in August) and those that we want to retain so we will start engaging those that we want to keep between now and August,” he said.

The ‘Out of contract’ players who were given the 2 months extensions are captain Jabulani Maluleke, vice-captain George Chigova, Lehlohonolo Phali, Thabiso Semenya, Simphiwe Hlongwane, Edgar Manaka and Bongile Booi.
