Tesco Macheke is ready to take things up a gear after the North West ABC Motsepe League outfit Platinum City Rovers FC cruised their way to the South African football third-tier national playoffs.

City Rovers qualified for the 2020/21 national playoffs at the expense of Allys Tigers, whom they defeated 2-0 at Alabama Stadium earlier this month.

The side is drawn in Group C alongside BCM Stars of the Eastern Cape and The Dolphins from Limpopo.

The national playoffs are scheduled to run from June 28 – July 3 in Mpumalanga.

In an interview with FARPost, coach Macheke admits the preparations for the playoffs have been going so good, having arrived in Mbombela on Wednesday, 23 June.

“So far we are coming alright, but it’s just a matter of taking it one step at a time,” said Macheke.

“As you know we are in the middle of the pandemic and the battle against Covid-19 is presenting issues in all departments, so we have to be cautious at training and also in everything that we do.”

However, the head coach hopes injuries do not disrupt his plans for this playoffs competition.

“For now, we got three injuries but light ones. However, we are still climaxing with the environment,” he adds.

Macheke is confident that his troops will do whatever it takes to earn the GladAfrica Championship promotion at this year’s playoffs.

“I’m very positive that we will walk away victorious. What we have is that we believe in our boys, and we will take one game at a time, let alone preparing our players mentally prior to the national playoffs kick-off,” Macheke further stated.

He went on to send a heartfelt message to City Rovers faithfuls back at home.

“I would like to take this opportunity to send my gratitude to our loyal fans in the way they have all come together to support our team, even though they couldn’t attend our games due to the Covid-19. What they can do now is to pray and have faith in us because they have sent soldiers out there,” he says in conclusion.
