Coach suspended after knocking out referee in Somalia

The Somali Football Federation (SFF) have suspended the assistant coach of Horseed FC Ibrahim Ahmed for 14 months after he punched the fourth official during a Somali Premier League match between Elman FC and Horseed at Eng. Yarisow Stadium in Mogadishu last Tuesday.

It is unclear as to why Ahmed went rogue and attacked the match official from behind but according to media reports in Somalia, the referee stopped the game in the 75th minute and went to have a chat with his assistant on the touchline and after a few seconds, the man with the whistle headed to the assistant coach of Horseed and gave him a red card.

A fuming Ahmed, like a heavyweight boxer, knocked out the fourth official and ran onto the field of play in the direction of the referee but failed to put his hands on the man in charge as the players stopped him from doing so.

As a result of his unsportsmanlike and violent behaviour, Ahmed has been ordered to pay $700 USD and received a 14-month ban from all football-related activities.
