Costa do Sol made an embarrassing start to the defence of their Moçambola title with a shock defeat against Ferroviário da Beira in Chiveve on Sunday as football in Mozambique returned behind closed doors amid Covid-19.
It was goals galore in the first round of the new Mozambola season as a total of 22 goals in seven matches were scored – an average of three goals per game.
The derby between Ferroviário de Maputo and União Desportiva de Songo ended with 0-0, which happened to the only goalless game of the first round.
The biggest surprises of the opening weekend were led by debutants Ferroviário de Lichinga and Black Bulls, who won their respective matches.
Lichinga beat Liga Desportiva 2-1 in Maputo, while Bulls made light work of Ferroviário de Nampula as they walked away with a 2-0 victory over the 2007 National champions.
