According to British newspaper Chroniclelive.co.uk, South African defender Bradley Cross is nearing completing a move to English Premier League side Newcastle United after leaving Schalke 04 in June.
Cross has been on the look out for a new club in this current transfer window after his two-year loan deal from Bidvest Wits to Schalke ended. Just two weeks ago the central defender was in Netherlands on trial at second tier side Go Ahead Eagles, but unfortunately that deal did not materialise, and the 19-year-old has now emerged in Newcastle where he is on another trial.
Unlike most South Africans, Cross would not struggle to get a work permit as he holds both a South African and British passport through his parents.
Should Cross sign he will join the likes of Khanya Leshabela (Leicester), El Nino and Gabriano Shelton (Liverpool), Nikola Tavares (Crystal Palace), Kgaogelo Chauke(Southampton), Reyaan Raffie (Man City), Ethan Chislett (AFC Wimbledon), and Fleetwood Town’s Akiel Raffie who are all in the books of English teams at different levels in England.
Cross can play as both a centre and left back, in fact his versatility might be a huge advantage for him going to Newcastle where he is most likely going to play with the U-23 team before going up to the first team in the near future.
