For the past few weeks Algerian winger ‘Said’ Benrahma has been linked with a lot of teams in the English Premier League and now it seems another team has entered the race for the attacker.
According to TeamTalk.com Crystal Palace are now leading the race to have the winger cross over from Brentford who have eyed former Norwich midfielder Alex Pritchard as his replacement should the deal happen before the current transfer window shuts on the 5th of October.
The British publication claims that West Ham United, Leeds United, Arsenal and Aston Villa have all decided against signing the 25-year-old which has left Palace in pole position to close the deal.
After selling Alexander Sorloth to RB Leipzig, Palace have raised enough money to make a strong bid to lure the Brentford Player of the Season across the Capital.
Benrahma was one of the key performers for the ‘Bees’ last season scoring 17 goals and assisting a further 9 in 43 games across all competitions.
The former OGC Nice hitman has been at Griffin Park since 2018 making 81 league appearances bagging 27 goals in the English Championship in the two seasons spent at the London club. His current deal is set to expire in June 2022, but his scintillating form has attracted interest from all over Europe.
It remains to be seen if the Algerian will remain at Brentford beyond this transfer window, but Brentford have certainly shown no intention to stand in his way should a good offer come.
The winger will be pleased to have turned the corner after sadly missing out in the 2019 AFCON due to an ankle injury and missing out on lifting the continental showpiece after being named in coach Djamel Belmadi’s initial preliminary squad.
The national team coach will also be happy to see the man dubbed ‘The next Mahrez’ doing very well in club football as the 2022 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers near resumption.
