Cape Town City came from behind to beat Royal AM 2-1 in their DStv Premiership clash at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday evening.
AM started the first half on the right foot, taking the game to the visitors.
The KZN-based outfit capitalized on an early free kick and Ndumiso Mabena opened the scoring in the 11th minute.
As the first half progressed, John Maduka’s troops sat deep and played on the counter, frustrating ‘The Citizens’ in the process.
City tried to bounce back into the game pushing forward in numbers to find an equalizer, but their efforts were fruitless.
The game went into the half-time break City trailing behind by 1-0.
Eric Tinkler’s boys weathered a spirited second half as they were more composed than the first 45.
In the 52nd minute of the showdown, Thami Mkhize’s solo run found Mduduzi Mdantsane on the edge of the box and levelled the matters.
Just five minutes later, the Cape Town-based side piled too much pressure on the hosts as Taariq Fielies got on the end of a header and puts City in front.
The new boys on block came close to finding an equalizer when Mabena’s free kick in the 68th minute hit the woodwork and Marques Hugo saved the rebound shot with a fantastic save.
At the end of the day, The game finished with a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the ‘The Citizens’.
