While many have tipped Rushine de Reuck to walk away with Absa Premiership Defender of the Season award, the Maritzburg United centre-back says he has a footballing brain and believes in his ability.
Before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, the 24-year-old defender was in good form – amongst the most impressive players in the league and had featured in all The Team of Choice’s 24 league games, as well as appearances in the Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout.
“I just want to be involved in football, helping the kids from areas like mine, succeed, become better footballers,” said De Reuck.
“I can play in midfield, I have played there before when I was younger but I haven’t played there in a while, so defensive midfield would be okay for me, I’m not very adventurous, I just like tackling , defending in general,” he added.
De Reuck went on to say that he doesn’t idolise anyone but has people that he looks up to, the likes of Robyn Johannes, Clayton Daniels, Bevan Fransman and his all-time favourite Nazeer Allie
“For me it’s just about creating my own identity, I learn from people but when I play, I play my strength and I play what I see and I play what I know,” concluded De Reuck.
