Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis is impressed by the current crop of the SA U20 Women’s team (Batsetsana) players, competing in the Fifa Under 20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Ellis paid Basetsana a visit yesterday in training at Eldorado Park as they prepare for their second leg tie against Zambia in the Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
The encounter is set to be played at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Kickoff scheduled for 15h00.
Basetsana won 2-0 in the first leg away to Zambia.
“I must say that I am very impressed with the amount of work that coach Jabulile Baloyi has put into this squad. This team has not been to the Fifa World Cup yet, and the technical staff can rest assured that they have our full support in these rounds of qualifiers,” said Ellis.
“I do not like singling out players, however, we already have players in this squad who have Banyana Banyana caps. Players like Sibulele Holweni (3 caps), Karabo Dhlamini (5 caps) and Noxolo Cesane (6 caps).
“We are always looking for quality to add into the Banyana squad because we are always thinking about the future of the senior national women’s team,” added Ellis.
Ellis led Banyana to their first-ever Fifa Women’s World Cup in 2019 in France and also won back-to-back CAF African Women’s Coach of the Year awards in 2018 and 2019.
