Argentina star Angel Di Maria has signed a one-year extension to his contract with an option of a second year at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, tying him to the club until June 2022.
The French champions announced on Friday in a statement on the club’s website. Di Maria, who turned 33 last month, joined PSG from Manchester United in 2015 having previously starred for Real Madrid. He has also played for Benfica and Rosario Central.
Di Maria shared his joy and ambitions after extending his contract. “First and foremost, I am very happy to have been able to extend my adventure with Paris Saint-Germain for another year, with an additional year as an option,” said the winger.
“I think that it’s something that is very important for me. I have always said that I am very happy in Paris, and my family is too. My daughters love Paris, their school, their friends.”
The 33-year-old has made 248 appearances for the Rouge & Bleu, scoring 87 goals and making 99 assists while playing a key role in the club’s success over recent seasons.
He has notched up 16 trophies so far for the Parisian club: four Ligue 1 titles (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020), four Coupes de la Ligue (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), four Coupes de France (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), and four Trophées des Champions (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020).
He has the second-most assists in the history of PSG, setting up 99 goals for his teammates just behind Safet Susic’s total of 103. “Fideo” is also the eighth-highest scorer (87 goals) in the history of the club.
The Rosario-born player has also picked up 104 caps and scored 20 goals for “La Albiceleste”, the Argentina national team.
“My desire was therefore to continue here because I feel good at the club and in this city. If I have renewed my contract, it’s also because the club is happy with me, and equally because the coach is happy. I hope to be able to make my name in the club’s history.”
