Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given some positive feedback regarding Amad Diallo.
The manager says the teenager is edging closer to making his first English Premier League start for the Red Devils. Diallo has featured for the former English champions in the FA Cup and the Europa League, but he is yet to make an appearance in the league this season.
Diallo signed from Italian Serie A side Atalanta and the technical team has been gradually introducing him to the first team set-up. His only goal for the club came against AC Milan in the Europa League last month. The goal was significant as it helped Solskjaer’s side progress in the competition with a 2-1 aggregate.
Speaking to the media this week, Solskjaer said he has mostly used Diallo in the continental competition, but he is also close to making his first league start.
“Of course he is close to a start.
“He’s getting more and more used to our expectation and the training and the level of the intensity in the games over here.
“He did well when he played against Milan, definitely, a bright start and we’re gradually going to see him play more and more and a start might come now it might come in a little while.”
Diallo recently made his Ivory Coast debut in the recent international break and he will be eager to get more minutes under his belt with the 2021 Afcon also on the horizon.
United travel to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils sit in second place on the Premier League table with 60 points from 30 games. They are 14 points behind log-leaders and arch-rivals Manchester City, who are cruising with 74 points after 31 games.
