Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has penned a new deal with the club.
Despite arriving in 2020 from Portuguese Primeira Liga side SL Benfica, the centre back has signed a new and improved contract which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until June 2027.
Dias was the breakout star last season for Pep Guardiola’s side which saw him win the Uefa Defender of the Year award and now the Citizens have moved swiftly to lock him down on a long-term basis.
He was also voted as the Premier League Player of the Season which elevated him to be a regular member of the Portugal national team where he featured in all their games in the 2020 European Championship.
Since arriving in England, Dias has helped City clinch the Carabao Cup, the Premier League title as well as helping the club reach their first ever Champions League final.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 24-year-old said it’s a dream come true to play for City and he wants to stay at the club for years to come.
“Playing for City has surpassed all my expectations and it’s an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible squad.
“To be part of the squad that achieved so much last season was incredible and made us all hungry to achieve even more.
“Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful this season and beyond.”
Since making the switch to England, Dias has made 50 appearances for the Citizens.
