Newly-promoted English Premier League side Brentford have completed the signing of Frank Onyeka on a five-year deal.
The midfielder will join his new teammates after receiving an international clearance certificate. A work permit for the 23-year-old has already been acquired and he has also completed a medical.
Onyeka joins the Bees from FC Midtjylland for an undisclosed fee. He arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday, and will now undergo the mandatory quarantine period.
Onyeka has spent his entire professional career with Midtjylland where he established himself as a regular in the Danish Superliga.
In four seasons, Onyeka made 123 appearances for Midtjylland and he was part of the squad that won the Superliga in the 2017/18 campaign. He helped them win the title again in 2019/20 and the Danish Cup in 2019.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Thomas Frank said he was pleased to start working with the dynamic player.
“I am looking forward to getting Frank in the building. We think he is a strong addition to the squad, and we are looking forward to working with him. He is a very dynamic player.
“Frank plays as an eight in our system, he is very good at getting from box to box and will be valuable to us when we don’t have the ball.
“He has come from the Danish league and was one of the best midfield players in that league, we think he has the potential to develop further. All the coaches here are looking forward to working with Frank and pushing him to a higher level.”
At international level, Onyeka received his first Nigeria call-up last year. He was selected for friendly matches in October and made his international debut against Algeria which remains his only appearance for his country so far.
