SuperSport United midfielder Jesse Donn has reacted to his first Bafana Bafana call-up and recent form in the DStv Premiership.
The 22-year-old was included in coach Hugo Broos’s 34-man preliminary squad for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.
The former DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) player has featured in all the matches for Matsatsantsa this season, walking away with two man of the match accolades.
Speaking ahead of the league clash against Maritzburg United on Saturday, Donn says the call up is a huge motivation for him to keep working hard.
“It’s an absolute honour to be part of the team for the upcoming qualifiers. It’s something that every young footballer dreams of from a young age,” he told the media on Thursday.
“In some way, it’s kind of hard to believe and I am getting closer to realising that dream and I obviously fully understand that’s is only the provisional squad and it’s going to be extremely difficult to get into the final squad but I trust that God is in control and in time it will happen and I am just going to continue working as best as I can,” he said.
The former Ubuntu Cape Town player also adds that he is more satisfied when the club does well rather than the individual accolades.
“It has been a good start of the season for me. Obviously, I’ve had quite a few nice pieces of recognition which in all honesty don’t mean much to me, what is more important to me is how the team is performing.
“Personally, I have been happy with my performances, I will admit that in one of the man of the match games I probably wasn’t at my best, it’s just by God grace that I got that award. But I have been really happy with the consistency I think that’s been a plus for me as a young player you always want to get the opportunity to be playing,” added Donn.
