The reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns have been booted out of the MTN8 by Bloemfontein Celtic.
Celtic won 1-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, courtesy of a goal by Victor Letsoalo in the quarterfinals.
On paper, Sundowns looked a far stronger team with Celtic missing some key players. Not making the matchday squad for Siwelele were captain Ndumiso Mabena, influential midfielder Lantshene Phalane and defender Justice Chabalala. The club didn’t offer any explanation for them missing in action.
But football is played on the pitch and not on paper, and that’s where Celtic made it count under the tutelage of John Maduka.
Celtic goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane was Man of the Match, silencing his critics in the process and guiding Celtic to the last four, where they face SuperSport United over two legs.
In the other semifinal, Orlando Pirates will clash against their bitter rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.
The dates are yet to be confirmed.
