Downs players to watch v CT City

It’s the grass that suffers when Cape Town City clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

When the two sides meet at Cape Town Stadium tonight (19:30), it’s expected to be another fierce battle between the Citizens and Brazilians.

For Sundowns to get maximum points away, FARPost Editor Tiyani wa ka Mabasa has picked the followers players to shine.

Kermit Erasmus

As is the nature of footfall, players need no extra motivation when facing their former employers and in this case, Erasmus is no exception as he returns to the Cape for the first time since leaving for Chloorkop.

Erasmus was one of the top scorers in the past campaign and one of the teams he troubled was the reigning PSL champions. Now the tables have turned and it’s City on the receiving end.

Andile Jali

AJ is a dominant figure in the centre of the park and with CT City boasting the likes of Thabo Nodada in their ranks, it makes for an interesting battle around the midfield area. On his day, Jali is capable of stopping the opposition attacks and City may not be able to enjoy their passing game with him around.

The only thing missing from his game perhaps is consistency.

Peter Shalulile

Ignore him at your peril.

The Namibian is not one to waste too many chances. Last season, defenders battled to contain him throughout his time with Highlands Park and he’s already off the mark for the Tshwane side after scoring in the 3-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs.

The goal has set his path straight and there’s no pressure anymore to get that first goal, which augurs well for him and the team.
