Chelsea’s new signing Hakim Ziyech has finally responded to comparisons between him and Belgian international Eden Hazard.
Hazard stayed for seven years at the club and played a big role in them winning the English Premier League (twice), UEFA Europa League (twice), the FA Cup and League Cup in his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The comparison comes after the Moroccan international started life well in England playing a part in their good start which sees the ‘Blues’ sit in 3rd position on the table with 19 points collected from the 10 league games of the 2020/21 season.
The 27-year-old has assisted 3 goals and scored 1 goal in his first 6 matches in the English top-flight.
Speaking to the English press, the creative midfielder has responded to the comparison admitting that Hazard is an inspiration to him.
“Eden Hazard is a world class player and you always take inspiration from that. You look at the small things from how he is playing the game, how he is doing stuff and I know I can still learn a lot from him,” said Ziyech.
Last season Frank Lampard’s young squad had to fight till the last day of the season to secure a 4th place finish which secured them UEFA Champions League football for the 2020/21 season.
The former Ajax Amsterdam talisman is optimistic about their chances of shocking everyone this season and contend for the title against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspurs.
“It starts with believing in it and then working harder every day. You always have to believe that it’s possible, that’s what we’re doing and we’ll see what it brings at the end of the season,” he concluded.
Going into match day 5 on Wednesday night Chelsea are in the driving seat in their UEFA Champions League group. A top of the table clash against Sevilla will probably determine who finishes top of Group E.
Both teams have secured their passage to the knockout round of the competition.
